Abstract

Patrice Proett reflects on her memories of moving from Oklahoma to Colorado and traveling in a covered wagon in the early 1900s to a homestead. Reminisces on her days in elementary school, learning to read and write with slates, and her one-room schoolhouse. Proett describes different games the school children played. Describes the post office and general store that were attached to her home and how her mother was the postmaster for the area. Proett reminisces on celebrating Christmas, performing plays and singing carols, decorating a community Christmas tree with tinsel and candles, and stringing popcorn and cranberries.
