Sigma Pi Sigma is the honorary section within the Society of Physics Students. Physics students with high GPAs are invited to join Sigma Pi Sigma in their junior year. Sigma Pi Sigma began at Davidson College on December 11, 1921, and is the only American honor society for physics and astronomy students. The University of Denver chapter, Alpha Delta, was installed in 1934 and was the twenty-eigth of the society, but only the second west of the Mississippi. Twenty-one charter members were initiated at the installation of the DU chapter in 1934, including current members, alumni and one woman, Flora D. Wescott, who served as the secretary and was largely responsible for collating the materias in the scrapbook.
