Colorado Contemporary Dance Records

 Collection
Identifier: D013

Abstract

Colorado Contemporary Dance was a nonprofit organization and performing arts presenter which operated from 1973 to 2002. The organization's primary mission was to promote contemporary dance performance, education, and community outreach throughout Colorado. This collection contains administrative files from Colorado Contemporary Dance including Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, meeting minutes, annual reports, treasurer reports, and correspondences (dating to 1971 as prior to the organization's incorporation). This collection also includes reconstructed event files with technical speceifications, event logistics, programs, presskits and posters from performances as well as educational materials used for programs coordinated by Joan Brown.

The records generated by the business operations of Colorado Contemporary are significant because they represent one of the first presenters of modern dance in Colorado, which was hitherto considered "a dance desert" due to lack of dance programming and awareness about the art form.
