  • Benjamin M. Blumberg Papers

    Abstract: Benjamin M. Blumberg (1911-1978) was in the newspaper business and was a reporter or editor for a number of Colorado newspapers, many of which focused on Colorado's Jewish community. Blumberg held leadership positions with many Jewish community organizations, including Allied Jewish Community Council, B'nai B'rith Lodge #171 in Denver, and the Jewish Youth Council in Denver. He was the first administrator of General Rose Hospital in Denver, and he was also employed with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. The collection contains Blumberg's personal papers, including those pertaining to his newspaper career, education, and community organization involvement. The collection also contains materials related to Milton Louis Anfenger and Saul Pinchick as well as papers that belonged to Blumberg's wife, Anne Blumberg.

  • Beth Israel Hospital and Geriatric Center Records

    Abstract: In 1918 the Moshev Zkenim (Organization of Elders) Home and Society was incorporated in Denver with Ed Grimes (who had been a Cotopaxi resident) as president. The cornerstone was laid on June 22, 1919. The facility opened in 1920 and the name was changed to the Beth Israel Hospital Home. A second three story building opened in 1946, the Beth Israel Home for the Aged. The old building was used for chonically ill and the new building provided hospital and geriatric care. In the 1970s the name was changed to Beth Hospital and Geriatric Center. In 1987 Beth Israel was sold to St. Anthony's to pay for a new facility at Shalom Park, which opened in 1992.Collection contains administrative records, photographs, scrapbooks, publications, clippings and minutes from the Beth Israel Hospital and Geriatric Center from 1917-1995.

  • Edward Simon Papers

    Abstract: Edward Elias Simon was a long-time board member and president of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) from 1967 to 1969. He initiated a development fund during his presidency of the JCC and the new facilities were dedicated in August of 1972. The collection includes material on the expansion project of the JCC, administrative materials, photographs, and newsclippings.

  • Kenneth R. Gottesfeld Papers

    Abstract: Kenneth R. Gottesfeld was a pioneer in the development of the diagnostic ultrasound method in obstetrics and gynecology. He received his medical degree from the University of Colorado and during his residency he did research for Dr. Joseph Holmes and Dr. Horace Thompson, Denver pioneers in diagnostic medical ultrasound. He travelled to England and studied with Dr. Ian Donald, considered the founder of obstetrical sonography. Kenneth Gottesfeld was credited with the initial sonographic description of the placenta. Dr. Gottesfeld was a full professor in obstetrics and gynecology and concurrently in radiology at the University of Colorado Health. Kenneth Gottesfeld was killed in a skiing accident in 1984. Collection contains curriculum vitae of Kenneth R. Gottesfeld, M.D., a memorial biographical notes, correspondence, conference materials, medical papers, and articles related to Kenneth R. Gottesfeld from 1982 through 1984.
