Abstract An art class that is part of the rehabilitation program of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS) meets for a session. Male patients sit on folding chairs in a half circle around a male model wearing a robe, pajamas, slippers and hat. Max Lazarus, a German-Jewish artist, is pictured second from the left. Abstract

Charcoal drawing on paper of young woman sitting on single bed (Maria Loewenstein's daughter Karin Steinberg. Her shoulders are hunched and her lower arms rest on the top her thighs. She looks off behind the artist’s right side with a vacant stare. The bed has a pillow and blanket but the rest of the area is bare. The drawing was done on wall paper with charcoal from bombed buildings in Berlin.

Abstract

Charcoal self portrait of Maria Lowenstein dated 1942. Her hair is almost chin length with a slight curl and parted down the center. Her features are sharp. The portrait goes down to the top of shoulders and shirt collar.

Scope and Contents

Charcoal sketch done by Maria Lowenstein. Sketch is of a Rabbi looking down towards his left hand in which he is holding something in palm up. The sketch is sparse but his yarmulke and tallit are recognizable. Sketch is in a thin gunmetal grey metal frame with light blue mat and covered in glass.
