Biography

Samuel Sholom Saliman was born in Russia on January 7, 1876 and settled in Denver, Colorado in 1889. He married Bessie Pessel in 1905 in Denver and their eldest son, Julius, was born in Denver July 22, 1900. Samuel Saliman established Saliman’s Bar and Grill around 1915 at 1920 Larimer Street. Before he started the restaurant, he made glass bottles. Julius began working at his father’s restaurant when he was 17 and eventually became the owner. The restaurant went through a number of name changes and was moved from the original location to 15th and Tremont and was relocated to the corner of 17th and California in 1960. Many of the Saliman family were involved in the restaurant and deli businesses, including Samuel’s brothers Abraham and Isadore Saliman. Samuel Saliman died in Denver on April 15, 1959 and his son Julius died January 22, 1986.
