University of Denver. 2121 East Asbury Avenue, Denver, Colordao 80208. Date built: October 26, 1978. Gross square feet: 46,456. The Shwayder Art Building opened in 1978 and dedicated on May 15, 1979. It is named for the Jesse and Nellie Shwayder Foundation, which donated $1.7 million in stock toward the building project.

The Shwayder Art Building contains the Victoria H. Myhren Gallery, the principal exhibition venue of the School of Art and Art History.

Abstract The Shwayder family of Denver, Colorado, is best known for the luggage company Samsonite Corporation, which the family founded and operated. Isaac and Rachel Shwayder had migrated from Manchester, England to Colorado in 1881 and eventually settled in Denver. In 1910 their son, Jesse Shwayder, opened a small luggage factory in Denver with his father along with his brothers Mark, Maurice, Benjamin, and Solomon Shwayder.
