Founded 1886 as Chattanooga University; merged with Grant Memorial University 1889 to form Grant University with campuses in Athens and Chattanooga; name changed 1907 to University of Chattanooga; merged 1969 with Chattanooga City College and joined the University of Tennessee system as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
