Socorro, New Mexico. A hunchback completes the lyrics of a song being sung by some witches and is made rich overnight. An envious friend goes to the woods, meets the witches and sticks his foot in it, gets a beating, and acquires the hump that the witches had taken away from the old hunchback. Recited. Quality: Good

Albuquerque, New Mexico. A drunk gets into a home where a wake is being held and, seeing the few candles around the body, begins to sing "Las mananitas," a birthday song. Someone tells the drunk to quiet own, that he is in a wake. The drunk then says that now he understands why there were so few candles for such a large cake. Quality: Good

Albuquerque, New Mexico. A priest forgets to tell the cook how he wants his chicken prepared. The cook enters the church while the priest is celebrating mass. In the choir, the cook chants to the priest that he has not told her how he wants his chicken. He answers in Gregorian chant. Date is uncertain. Recited. Quality: Good/Fair.

San Jose, New Mexico. A woman cook forgets to ask the priest how he wants his chicken prepared and sends a girl to church where the priest is saying mass. She asks him in a Gregorian chant how he wants his chicken prepared. In a responsorial manner (also using Gregorian chant), the priest tells her how the chicken is to be prepared. Belen, New Mexico. Untranscribable and untranslatable humorous account of a stuttering simpleton who comes to warn his father that theives are stealing the hog. The only way he can get his message across is by accompanying himself on a guitar as he sings. Quality:Fair

Belen, New Mexico. Against the king's wish, a princess continues to love a commoner. In the meantime, the queen also courts the commoner with a love song. Song is in the context of the story. Quality: fair.

Vallecitos, New Mexico. Two brothers are envious of their younger brother, thus, when the opportunity presents itself, they murder him in the forest and bury his body. Although they return home and tell their father that their brother is lost in the forest, an Indian shows up with a singing flower, which tells of the evil deed of the olders brothers. Quality:Fair

Albuquerque, New Mexico. Three sons leave home. All meet the same old man who asks them (individually) to get him the topmost flower on a tree. Two older brothers get a flower, but not what the man wanted. The youngest brother gets the topmost flower and is rewarded. The two older brother kill and bury him. They put a twig on his tomb. The twig blooms and sings, and eventually the brothers' crime is discovered. Quality:Fair

Los Angeles, California. A king has a garden that is entered nightly by horses. Three brothers are selected to guard the garden. The oldest and the brother next to him in age fall asleep and are fired. The youngest puts pins in his eyelids to keep from falling asleep. He sings out "sonando mi guitarrita," keeps awake, and captures the horses. The horses promise never to return if he lets them go. Fragment. Quality: Good/Fair.
