Biography

After being incorporated by Ada Belle Spencer on 26 October 1982, the Galen and Ada Belle Spencer Foundation was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in May 1983. The foundation honors the Spencers' primary interests in music and the community through grants to vocal music organizations, vocal music education, and other broad community efforts. The foundation primarily focuses on support of opera companies and related supporting organizations, vocal music programs of higher education institutions, and organizations that support young persons' musical interests and training. Colorado organizations receiving support from the foundation have included the Central City Opera House Association (Denver), the Colorado Opera Festival (Colorado Springs), the Denver Lyric Opera Guild (Aurora), the Metropolitan Opera Association, Inc. National Council, Rocky Mountain District Regional Auditions (Denver), vocal music studies and the Music Department at The Colorado College (Colorado Springs), the College of Music, University of Colorado Foundation, Inc. (Boulder), the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver (Denver), the Young Musicians' Foundation of Colorado (Littleton), the Jefferson Symphony Association (Golden), the Art Student League of Denver, the Council for Public Television Channel 6, Inc., the Denver Rescue Mission, the Denver Zoological Foundation, Inc., and the Sewall Child Development Center, Inc. - just to name a few.
