 Organization

Biography

University of Denver. 1899 E Evans Ave Denver, CO 80208. Date built: 2000. Gross square feet: 18,013. Architect of Record: Andrews & Anderson Architects. Contractor: Etkin Skanska. Budget: $4 million. Dedicated on Sept. 22, 2000. Opened on October 4, 2000. Also called Fisher Early Learning Center. "Located at the prime western entry to the campus, the 18,000-square-foot building carefully blends in with nearby residences. The building's red brick, limestone trim, and copper roof let passersby know that it belongs to campus. Meanwhile, to ensure that the building does not dominate its neighbors, its scale reflects the one- and two-story houses nearby. DU purchased a small brick bungalow to the north of the center and then connected the two buildings with a brick-enclosed thoroughfare and a ramp. Among other amenities, the bungalow features a child-friendly library and sitting area as well as [a] full-service kitchen" (Built for Learning, 174).
