Abstract

Charles Miller was secretary of the Jewish Consumptives Relief Society (JCRS). The Jewish Consumptives Relief Society Collection opened in 1904 (in now Lakewood, Colorado) as a sanatorium for tuberculosis sufferers. It operated until 1954 when it changed its focus to cancer research and became the American Medical Center. contains programs, photos, and scrapbooks related to Charles Miller from circa 1920 through 1958.

Henry J. Schwartz Scrapbook

Abstract

Henry J. Schwartz was born in Russia and came to New York with his parents. He settled in Denver in 1895 and married Mollie K. Kohn in 1898. Henry Schwartz was an original member of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society board of directors and served as president and vice president of the JCRS. He was also a member of the Town Club. Much of the scrapbook has clipplings on the JCRS, but also on politics, Temple Emanuel, and obituaries for Dr. Philip Hillkowitz.

Abstract Isidor D. Bronfin was born in 1886 in Russia and migrated to the United States in 1902. He earned a medical degree from the University of the State of New York in 1911--the same year that he became a U.S. citizen. Bronfin was a noted authority on tuberculosis treatment and authored several publications on the topic. Rabbi Yehudah Idel Idelson Collection

Abstract Rabbi Yehuda Idel Idelson was born in Navardok, Lithuania in 1874 and married Hadassah Bloch in 1896. Rabbi Idelson arrived in Denver, Colorado in about 1901, an acclaimed Torah scholar and commentator, to become the rabbi at Congreation Tifereth Israel. The small synagogue was incorporated by Polish Jews in 1901 and was located under the Colfax Viaduct in the east European Jewish immigrant neighborhood. Abstract Dr. Charles Spivak was born in Russia in 1861 and died in Denver, Colorado in 1927. He arrived in New York City in 1882 and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1893, Charles Spivak married Jennie Charsky.
