Cohen family (Aspen, Colo.)

Abstract

According to Horace Waters, the family of Meyers Harris was in Boulder during the 1870s and 1880s. He and his wife Jeanett had four daughters (Anna, Sarah, Etta, Rebecca), all of whom were born in Michigan before the family moved to Colorado. The families of Benjamin, Moses, and George B. Holstein were in Boulder and Blackhawk during the 1870s and 80s, where they were involved in the clothing and mining industries (specifically the Cohen Lode).

Abstract

Panel titled "Jewish Communities Outside of Denver" features more historical information and includes Cohen Family of Fairplay, Issacs of Leadville. Cripple Creek, Sam and Bertha Flax, Abraham Rachofsky of Central City, and Meyer Brothers of Northern Colorado.

Elias Cohen was a resident of Aspen by 1891, a mine supervisor in, and manager of David Hyman's properties. It was Cohen who suggested the use of deep-sea divers to repair broken mine-pump shafts.

Abstract "Dr. Edmond Cohen recounts the life of his grandfather, Samuel Cohen, of Fairplay, Colo. Sam was a Jewish immigrant who had arrived in the United States from England in 1870, originally migrating from Eastern Europe in 1867. He provides background on his family including his father, Joseph, his aunts and uncles, his brother, his wife Helen (née Grauman), and their daughter and grandchildren.
