Abstract

A dinner banquet for auxiliaries of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS). Pictured are Dr. and Mrs. William Klein and at the second table Ben Friedland with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schwartz. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish workingmen along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. The sanatorium was located on West Colfax Avenue just outside of Denver.

Abstract

Henry J. Schwartz was born in Russia and came to New York with his parents. He settled in Denver in 1895 and married Mollie K. Kohn in 1898. Henry Schwartz was an original member of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society board of directors and served as president and vice president of the JCRS. He was also a member of the Town Club. Much of the scrapbook has clipplings on the JCRS, but also on politics, Temple Emanuel, and obituaries.

Abstract Dr. Philip Hillkowitz sits at the head of a table in a captain's army uniform at the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS) offices. Abstract

Several Jewish men, a luncheon group that met daily for lunch at the Edelweiss restaurant on California Street between 16th and 17th streets, pose together in front of the Old Progressive Club. Standing left to right Benny Solomon, an unknown man, Morris Cohn, Arthur Friedman, Milton Schayer, Max Goldbaum, Louie Edelman, Carl Meyer, and Dave Harlem.
