Biography
Leone E. Steen (1908-1994) grew up in downtown Denver, Colo. and attended the University of Denver, where she graduated with a degree in library science. She worked as a librarian in Alamosa, Colo. from 1936-1940. She married William P. "Bill" Steen, a public service employee, in 1940 and she worked in a public library in Billings, Mont., during World War II. Mr. and Mrs. Steen moved into Bill Steen's mother's home in the University Park area of Denver in 1946. Leone Steen worked in the Iliff School of Theology library in Denver for 16 years and Bill Steen opened the Birlauf & Steen photo studio at 401 Delaware St. in Denver. The Steens raised four children, three boys and a girl. Their children attended the University Park Elementary School and South High School. One of her children graduated from the University of Denver. Bill Steen died in November
