Biography

Theodore “Ted” Paul Ruskin was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 15, 1943 and died in Denver, CO on April 7, 2020. He moved to Denver in 1970 and earned a MA in business administration. He worked as a teacher in a federal prison in Englewood, retiring in the mid-1980s due to advancing blindness. Ted Ruskin, who was fluent in Hebrew and a sculpture designer, worked for Norman Memorial’s before opening Ted Ruskin Memorials. His nickname became “Mr. Tombstone.” Ted Ruskin also helped found Babi Yar Park, a long-time member of the Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society and was a member of Colorado Committee of Concern for Soviet Jewry. He was the driving force behind the renovation and yearly cleanup of several Jewish cemeteries, including the Hill portion of Golden Hill Cemetery. Many JCRS patients are buried in the Hill portion and Ted Ruskin worked on getting the cemetery included on the National Register of Historic Places. He paid for a tombstone for Rose Elsner in the Emanuel cemetery.
