Biography

Jacob Boscoe, formerly Jacob Boscowitz, and his wife Eva founded the Star Bread Co. in Denver, later taken over by their children Sam and Rudy Boscoe. Sam Boscoe recalls growing up as a young boy on West Colfax Street on Denver, Colorado's west side. He details his family's early ventures into the bakery business and the establishment of Star Bread Co., previously Star Bakery. He also discusses his time in the U.S. Army during World War II, and describes his memories of the 1913 Denver snowstorm and the 100-year flood of 1965. Sam Boscoe was born in Denver, Colorado in 1905. Sam Boscoe attended Denver's North High School in the 1920s and continued his education by pursuing a degree in business administration at the University of Denver, graduating in 1927. He became head of the company the same year and continued the family tradition of operating this bakery along with his brother, Rudolph (Rudy), until it was sold in the late 1970s to Orowheat. Samuel A. Boscoe died in 1991.

Abstract Jacob Boscowitz was a master baker who immigrated to Denver in 1896 after fire destroyed his bakery in Kobryn, Poland. Star Bakery was founded by Eva and Jacob Boscowitz (Boscoe) in 1907 at 2744 West Colfax Avenue, under the Colfax viaduct. After Jacob Boskowitz died in an accident in 1909, Eva married Elya Rubin.
