American ballet dancer; raised in Norfolk, Virginia and began her dance training at the Tidewater Ballet Association at age 5; became an apprentice with New York City Ballet in 1987 and was invited to join the corps de ballet in 1988; promoted to the rank of soloist in 1993 and to principal in 1997;
