 Person

Biography

Harry Kadish came to Denver in 1884 from Russia, and was a clothing peddler. He died in Denver at the age of 108 in 1926. He was Mollie Kadish Gass's father.

Kadish was born in Brest Litovsk in 1818, spent his youth in Russia, and entered the Russian Army as a private. He served as a general in the Crimean War in the 1850s, the only Jew to make it to such a high rank. He moved to Denver via New York in 1880, with his large family, and set up a clothing store. He managed the business daily until he was 101 years old, and even after that, he resited his family's insistence that he retire. He reportedly never needed glasses and rarely used a cane, and outlived three wives.
