Biography

Obituary: Bernstein, Leonard Joseph, was born September 22, 1916 to Heloise Davis Bernstein and Samuel Joseph Bernstein in Denver, Colorado. He worked for the Denver and Rio Grande RR for over 50 years. He retired as Director of Passenger and Dining Car Services. Leonard was married to Alice Geyer Nelson Bernstein for seventeen years until her death in 1991. In 1994, Leonard married Dorothy Flesche Wallace. They celebrated eighteen years of marriage on January 1, 2012. Leonard died January 4, 2012 at Pikes Peak Hospice, Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will be sorely missed by his wife, Dorothy and his family: Dona Nelson McCarter (Russ), Julie McCarter Nanney (Mark), Rachel Nanney, Jane Flesche Gorman (Jim), Genevieve Taylor, Elizabeth Flesche Stanberry (Jim), John Miles Flesche (Laura), Kaitlin Flesche, Charles Flesche, Mary (Lisa) Flesche Mercier, Holly Mercier, John Mercier, Charles Flesche (Brownie), Marnie Flesche Bello (Wseil) Lucas Bello and Amanda Gail Flesche.

Abstract

Samuel and Heloise Bernstein moved from New York before their only child, Leonard, was born in Denver. Samuel worked in retail clothing. Leonard worked for Denver and Rio Grande RR for over 50 years. Most of the documents center around Heloise, Samuel and Leonard. Collection contains marriage announcements and certificates, death certificates, military certificates, postcards, photographs, and scrapbooks related to the Bernstein family from 1893 through 1966.
