Biography

Operated Kaplan Mercantille on Main Street in Rocky Ford after immigrating from Bialystock, Poland in about 1915 with his wife Anna. Kaplan Mercantile sold clothing and household goods. Later he also opened the Lamar Dry Goods Company in Lamar, CO. He ran the dry good store until the 1940's when he sold it to his brother-in-law Charlie Wangner. Mrs. Anna Kaplan regularly imported kosher meat from a relative who ran a kosher butcher shop in Denver. His daughters were Elsa Kaplan Tobin (21 April 1913 - 15 October 1991) and Pearl Kaplan Herman (22 November 1914 - 30 August 2006). Nathan and Anna Kaplan retired and moved to Denver in the 1940's.
