Biography

Polish born. Also known as Inka Kagan or Inka Goszczeski. Originally named Sabina Kagan, she was hidden as an infant with a Christian family in Poland by her parents. Both her parents were killed and the family didn't care for her. A neighboring family took her in and treated her as their own child. After the war, authorities persuaded the Catholic family to return Sabina to her people and was placed in a Jewish orphanage in Lodz. The staff physician there adopted her and Sabina became Inka Goszczeski.

Biography

Sabina Heller was the subject for one of Debra Howard's portraits of child holocaust survivors.
