Spivak, Barbara Charney, 1925-2022

Biography

Barbara Charney Spivak was born in Denver in 1925 and died in Denver on September 27, 2022. She attended South High School, received a bachelor's degree in fine arts at the University of Denver, and taught at a junior high school. In 1947 she married Dan Spivak, the grandson of Charles Spivak, who died in Denver in September of 2007. In 1952, the Spivaks opened Spivak Art Supply Co. in downtown Denver. There were also locations in Boulder and the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. The Spivaks sold the business in 1985. Barbara Spivak was an artist in a variety of media, including watercolors, oils ceramics, photography and printmaking. Some of her art was showcased in the Denver Art Museum.
