Obituary: Fred (Efraim) Hoffman, a Holocaust survivor, passed away June 15, 2008, in Denver. Rabbi Bruce Dollin officiated at the June 18 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Mr. Hoffman frequently spoke about his Holocaust experiences in the schools in order to raise awareness and remind people of the devastating consequences of hate. "He loved his family, his customers, his many friends, and his faith," the family said.

Mr. Hoffman was born Feb. 19, 1928, in Zlatary, Czechoslovakia. At the age of 13 or 14, he was deported to his first concentration camp. He survived Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Terezinstadt. After liberation, Mr. Hoffman found shelter with the Red Cross. He was then transferred a Displaced Persons Camp in Budapest, Hungary, where he was reunited with his sister.

Mr. Hoffman arrived in New York in 1948. He worked in the garment district during the day and studied English at night.

In 1952, he came to Denver.

Mr. Hoffman married Miriam Nahmouli on Aug. 18, 1956.

The owner of New Art Tailor and Cleaners in Denver for 55 years, Mr. Hoffman retired in 2006.

He was honored by ORT, which trained him as a tailor.

Mr. Hoffman is survived by his wife Miriam Hoffman of Denver; daughters Hanna (Mark) Shamer and Sylvia ((Alan) Wolpa and son Dr. Anthony (Jeanee) Hoffman; grandchildren Jordan, Madison and Joseph Shamer and Zach, Amy and Ryan Wolpa; brother-in-law Zak Nahmoulis of Los Angeles and sister-in-law Rose Hoffman of New Jersey.

Abstract

Sharon Berkowitz took photographs of Holocaust survivors in Denver and created a photographic exhibit for the City and County of Denver. The exhibit was entitled "Show me, I remember: Denver and the Holocaust." The collection contains exhibition panels, photographs, negatives and documents relating to the photographic exhibit
