Biography
Rowena Mae Akers Weinstein was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1911. Her father was a chemical engineer and the family lived in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to Denver in the 1920s. Rowena graduated from DU in 1933 with a sociology degree and was a scholar in residence in social work during 1932-1933. Samuel Weinstein and Rowena Mae Akers were married in 1935 and became the parents of five children: Loren, David, Robert, Joy, and Steven. Rowena Mae Weinstein spent her career as a social worker for the City and County of Denver.

Contains three photographs of the construction of General Rose Memorial Hospital taken in 1947. Sam Weinstein is in two of the photographs. Also contains a photograph of the 1937 Pioneer Session of the Order of the Eastern Star. Rowena Mae Akers Weinstein is in the first row, 8th from the left. She was the youngest matron to be inducted into the Eastern Star.
