Biography

Rowena Mae Akers Weinstein was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1911. Her father was a chemical engineer and the family lived in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to Denver in the 1920s. Rowena graduated from DU in 1933 with a sociology degree and was a scholar in residence in social work during 1932-1933. Samuel Weinstein and Rowena Mae Akers were married in 1935 and became the parents of five children: Loren, David, Robert, Joy, and Steven. Rowena Mae Weinstein spent her career as a social worker for the City and County of Denver.
