Biography

Born in Colorado. DU student: 1942 BA, education. Chief, DU Board of Trustees. Student-athlete: Men's football, 1939-1941; Men's track and field, 1941-1942. He also met his wife, Charlotte Ann Schroeder, on the DU campus in 1941 and they married in 1944. They had four daughters: Susan Lyday, Nancy Gwin, Sally Baier and Mary Erculiani. The couple was wed until Charlotte's death in 2013.

Estlow took his first newspaper job as a part owner and general manager of the Lovington (New Mexico) Press, a weekly newspaper. Estlow served as Scripps’ president and CEO from 1976 until 1985. Scripps is the parent company of KMGH-TV, 7NEWS. Estlow's career with the Cincinnati-based media company began as a retail advertising representative in 1952 at the former Rocky Mountain News, where he also served as a reporter.

Prior to being named president and CEO, Estlow was vice president of the company and general business manager of Scripps Howard Newspapers.

Born and raised in Colorado, Estlow studied law at DU and at Westminster Law School following service as an Air Force captain in World War ll.
