Grimes, Ben (Benjamin), 1877-1942
Biography
Benjamin Grimes was born in Russia Poland in 1877 and died in Denver on July 16, 1942. He first married Lena Jacobson and after she died in 1917 he married Birdie E. Knight who was born in Russia. Ben, Birdie, and their son Irving were awarded a patent for the Smuggler mine in the Upper Ouray Mining District in San Miguel county, Colorado. Max Grimes bought a machinery company which supplied mining equipment in 1935 and greatly expanded the business. He was a trustee of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society. His daughter Mamie Edith married Joseph Pizer, who was from Nebraska.

The collection contains family trees, family histories, genealogy records for the Pizer and Grimes families and a Golden Wedding Anniversary invitation for Fannie and Max Grimes held on June 14, 1966. There are also a mining patent, photos and map of the Smuggler mine in the Upper San Miguel Mining District near Ouray and Telluride, Colorado.
