Biography

Sam Grimes emigrated from Poland to Denver and worked in Salt Lake City, Utah and Denver, Colorado. He married Anne Karsh in Denver in 1892. Their son Max was born in Salt Lake City in 1894 and died in Denver in 1985. He spent most of his boyhood in Denver and graduated from East High School in 1912. Grimes studied at Colorado School of Mines, but then quit school after a year and became employed in his father's junkyard, where he continued to work throughout his lifetime. He also founded the Denver Metal Co. (which became Grimes Pipe and Supply Co.). He married Fanny Shapiro June 16, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and they raised four children. Fanny died in 1932, and Grimes later married Ann Friedman, the daughter of Dr. Emanuel Friedman.

Abstract The Grimes family came to the United States from Russia Poland in the 1880s and settled in Denver and in Salt Lake City. The Pizer family were early settlers in Nebraska, where Jacob Pizer was a successful merchant. Annette Frances Pizer was born in Hastings, Nebraska.
