Abstract

Babi Yar Park in Denver, Colorado was dedicated on October 2, 1983 to memorialize the September 1941 massacre of the Jews that remained in the Ukrainian city of Kiev, at a ravine called Babi Yar. The Babi Yar Park Foundation was formed under the leadership of Helen Ginsburg. Collection contains minutes, administrative papers, correspondence, reports, scrapbooks, news clippings, photos, public relations materials and architectural drawings from the Babi Yar Park between 1969-2015.

Abstract

Collection contains books and videos, related to Lillian Hoffman from 1960 through 2014. Lillian Hoffman was a founding and active member of the Colorado Commitee of Concern for Soviet Jewry. She began public Jewish protests in Denver and was the first to speak to a Soviet Jewish prisoner.

Abstract Soviet Jews who wanted to emigrate from the Soviet Union were known as "Refuseniks." American Jewish students formed the Struggle for Soviet Jewry (SSSJ) in 1964 and the American Jewish Committee on Soviet Jewry (AJCSI) was also organized that year. Rabbi Samuel Adelman, rabbi of the BMH synagogue, spoke at Temple Emanuel and urged the liberal congregation to help Soviet Jews. Rabbi Raymond Zwerin, Sheldon Steinhauser, and Lillian Hoffman formed what became the Colorado Committee of Concern...
