Abstract The Miller family came from Lithuania in 1890s. Robert Lazar Miller was one of the founders of the Denver stockyards and became the chief buyer for the K and B Meat Packing Company. The Averch family arrived in Denver from Eastern Europe in the early 1900s and later founded the Capitol Meat Packing Company in 1925. Holocaust survivor Jack Stern came to the US as a refugee in 1949, moved to Denver and became a cattle buyer for the Averch family packing house. He later operated his own farm...

Legacy of Healing Exhibit (History Colorado)

Abstract

In 2019, The Legacy of Healing exhibit was installed at the Colorado History museum. Professor Jeanne Abrams, Curator of the Beck Archives at DU University Libraries, and her staff and History Colorado staff created and installed the exhibit. The collection consists of exhibit panels, wall images and labels, planning documents and digital images.

Abstract

Lynn W. Lehmann was an assistant city attorney working in the Human Services Department of the City of Denver, Colorado. He helped revise the Colorado Children's Code. He was married to Denver City Councilwoman Peggy Lehmann, and they had two sons, Andy and Jon. Lynn Lehmann was born on March 21, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio and died of cancer on May 17, 2008.

File Folder eight contains flyers for the "Objects in Search of Stories" challenge as well as correspondence related to the challenge and associated event. The "Objects in Search of Stories" challenge called for participants to view The Beck Archives online collections, select an image, and create something inspired by the selected image. A reception was held later in the season to showcase the submissions inspired by the Beck Archives materials.
