Biography

Samuel Grimes was born in Russia Poland in 1870 and died in Denver, Colorado in 1963. In 1892 in Denver, he married Anna Karsh, who was born in Odessa, Russia. He worked in both Salt Lake City, Utah, and in Denver and later started a junkyard in Denver. Sam Grimes was a trustee of JCRS and helped to found a society to help elderly Jews. The home later became Beth Israel Hospital and Home for the Aged.

Abstract The Grimes family came to the United States from Russia Poland in the 1880s and settled in Denver and in Salt Lake City. The Pizer family were early settlers in Nebraska, where Jacob Pizer was a successful merchant. Annette Frances Pizer was born in Hastings, Nebraska. After she married Julian Lewis, she kept a scrapbook with wedding and anniversary cards. Sam Grimes worked in both Utah and Colorado before starting a junkyard in Denver.
