Like his father, Philip Hornbein, Jr. was an attorney in Denver. He graduated from CU Law School and married Anne Levine in 1967. His father was Philip L. Hornbein, 1879-1962.

Philip Hornbein was a Colorado trial lawyer, a leader in the fight against the Ku Klux Klan, and chairman of Colorado's Democratic Party during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
