Kauvar, Abraham J., 1915-2003
Biography
Abraham J. Kauvar was born in Denver, Colorado in 1915 and died there in 2003. He graduated from the University of Denver in 1935 and earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1939 from the University of Chicago. He served as Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of University of Colorado Medical School, and conducted research at the Eleanor Roosevelt Institute for Cancer Research. He was instrumental in founding the Neighborhood Health Program in 1965. Hospitals Corp. In 1987, the Kauvar Foundation, which specializes in health care needs of the elderly was established in his honor. He was the son of Rabbi Charles E.H. Kauvar, a prominant Denver religious leader.
