Biography

Dance faculty, UNC, 1972-1998; interviewer for the Legends of Dance project; proprietor of SCM Dance Productions, http://www.scmdance.com. M.A. and Ph.D.degrees are in dance from U.C.L.A. and Texas Woman's University respectively. Sandra is listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers, 4th ed., and was twice selected as College Scholar at the University of Northern Colorado. She has received grants for choreography, research and for teaching workshops from the Colorado Goals 2000 Project, the JFM Foundation, Denver, and the UNC Research and Publications Board. Ms. Minton was selected as the NDA Scholar/Artist for 1999,1999, and as a Fulbright Scholar in 2001. Her Human Kinetics books include Choreography: A Basic Approach Using Improvisation, third edition, Dance Mind & Body and Preventing Dance Injuries (co-editor). Another book, Using Movement to Teach Academics: The Mind & Body As One Entity was published by Rowman & Littlefield Education in March, 2008.

Abstract

This box contains (3) headdresses or masks worn for UNC performances. The feathered headdress and black/white mask were worn for "Legends of the Maya." The ribbon headdress was worn for "Face of the Goddess." Both pieces were choreographed by Sandra Minton. The headdresses and masks were created by Ruth Savig, a Visual Arts professor at UNC.
