Lowenstein, Henry, 1925-2014
Biography
Henry Lowenstein was born Ernst Heinrich Loewenstein on July 4, 1925 in Berlin, Germany to Dr. Max Moses Loewenstein and Marie [Maria] Lilli Margarete Batge Loewenstein. Henry Lowenstein died in Denver, Colorado on October 7, 2014. In 1939, an English family agreed to sponsor Henry and he was sent out of Berlin on the Kindertransport. His family remained in Germany until 1946, when the emigrated to the United States. In 1947, Henry was finally able to join his family in the United States after emigrating from England.

Baggage Tag, 1947 June 12
Baggage tag from Henry Lowenstein's crossing on the SS Marine Falcon from Southampton to the United States. The front of the tag is printed with "United States Line" and "Tourist Class Stateroom" in blue above and below an illustration of a ship. The back of the tag has been filled out by hand with H. Loewenstein, the steamer name, sailing date, departure port, arrival port, and final destination in Pennsylvania.
Correspondence, 1939-1984
Contains correspondence, envelopes, picture postcards and notes. Most of the correspondence is in German, but the picture postcards are in English and have photos, circa 1900, but cards were mailed in January-March of 1960 from Williamsport, Pennsylvania to Maria in Denver. There is no signature from the sender on the postcards. One letter in English written to the Lowenstein family in Berlin from a Rita (?) in Birmingham, England.

Lowenstein Family Holocaust Exhibit Booklet, 2009
Bound booklet written by Henry Lowenstein to accompany an exhibit featuring the Loewenstein documents at the Denver Public Library. The booklet explains the documents in the Lowenstein Family Holocaust Papers and tells his family's story during World War II especially relating to the Holocaust.

Post Office Telegram, 6/10/1947-and 6/12/1947
Telegram from Ingrid Lind Weddell to Henry Loewenstein before his departure from England to the United States. Delivery information printed by hand on the top of the telegram including date, June 12, 1947, and time, 5:30 p.m. Bath.

Radiogram from Henry Lowenstein to his family on the SS Marine Perch during their crossing to the United States. The message reads: "AONY DE GKV - RELAYED VIA ANBM, WHIPSNADE NR1 10 21 1253, STEINBERG SS MARINE PERCH/ GLV VIA ANBM, LOVE AND ALL THE BEST - HENRY."
