Biography
Marie [Maria] Lilli Margarete Bätge, b. Tallinn, m. Herr Steinberg, had one daughter, Karin M. Steinberg; then m. Dr. Max Israel Löwenstein (later Max Israel Loewenstein) in 1925; their son Ernst Heinrich Löwenstein (later Henry Lowenstein) b. July 4, 1925 was sent from Berlin to to England on the Kindertransport in 1939; the rest of the family emigrated to the United States in 1946, where they were joined by their son in 1947. __ __ __Her birth and baptismal certificate : B333.02.0001.0002.00007 (Marie Lilli Margarete Bätge, b. Self-Portrait, Maria Lowenstein, 1942
Charcoal self portrait of Maria Lowenstein dated 1942. Her hair is almost chin length with a slight curl and parted down the center. Her features are sharp. The portrait goes down to the top of shoulders and shirt collar.

One Winsor Spiral Sketchbook, size 5 x 8, filled with pencil sketches of people, buildings, landscapes and some still-life’s. Sketch book is dated "1953" on front cover. "15" written in top right corner of front cover; presumably it was priced at 15 cents.

Sketch book is dated "1954" on front cover; "Maria" and "Summer Canada" is also written on cover. "20" written in top right corner of front cover; presumably it was priced at 20 cents.

One Winsor Spiral Sketchbook, size 5 x 8, filled with pencil sketches of buildings, landscapes and seascapes, one watercolor and a few ink drawings. Several of the sketches have locations in and around Quebec written on them. Sketch book is dated "Summer 1956" on front cover; "Maria Lowenstein" is also written on cover. Stamped "Plankenhorn Stationary Co. Williamsport 2, PA" with "20" written in top right corner of front cover; presumably it was priced at 20 cents.

One sketch is of Losch Farm Machinery which was located in Mansfield, PA about 50 miles north of Williamsport. Sketch book is not dated but is identical to sketchbook dated 1956. Stamped "Plankenhorn Stationary Co. Williamsport 2, PA" with "20" written in top right corner of front cover; presumably it was priced at 20 cents.

Fav-o-rite Sketch Book stamped 20 cents; has "Maria" written across top and "Pocketbook of Bauers" written down right side. In the back are a few pages of jokes and at the bottom of one page is says "Pocketbook of Boners" which is an early Dr. Seuss filled with little jokes and funny illustrations. Filled with pencil sketches of people, buildings, landscapes and one drawing in colored marker.
