Marie [Maria] Lilli Margarete Bätge, b. Tallinn, m. Herr Steinberg, had one daughter, Karin M. Steinberg; then m. Dr. Max Israel Löwenstein (later Max Israel Loewenstein) in 1925; their son Ernst Heinrich Löwenstein (later Henry Lowenstein) b. Scope and Contents Box contains one acrylic painting by Maria Lowenstein, done while she was living in Denver. Painting is of buildings with a red three-story and a cream colored two-story building in the foreground with tops of buildings in the distance. Artist signature "Maria" in bottom left corner. The work is done is a cubist style using shades of blue, red and cream with black outlines. The paint is on a textured surface. Appears as though cheesecloth was stretched over surface before paint was applied....

Scope and Contents

Charcoal sketch done by Maria Lowenstein. Sketch is of a Rabbi looking down towards his left hand in which he is holding something in palm up. The sketch is sparse but his yarmulke and tallit are recognizable. Sketch is in a thin gunmetal grey metal frame with light blue mat and covered in glass.

Abstract

Pencil sketch on tracing paper of a woman on a doorstep with a milk bottle in one hand and the outstretched holding money (presumably) toward the milkman. The milkman has a milk crate of bottles in each hand and his head is turned back toward the woman on the doorstep. The quotation at the bottom of the sketch states "Think we could strike a deal?"

Abstract

A transcribed copy of Dr. Arthur Ernst Bätge and Therese Sophie Agathe Berg's, Maria's parents, marriage certificate from the Estonian vital statistics archive. The copy was produced on September 12, 1933 in Tallin, Estonia. It is typed on a blank sheet of paper. This was one form produced by Maria's to the prove her non-Jewish heritage.
