Scope and Contents

From the Collection: Traditional wimple made from the swaddling cloths of Yaacov Ben Naftali Kahn from Boppard, Germany, donated by his sister-in-law Edith Kern. The wimple is ornately embroidered with Hebrew text. The embroidery reads in Hebrew: "Yaakov bar (son of) Naftali the Cohen was born with good fortune on Sunday, the 19th of Iyar 5659, (April 29-30, 1899) May God make him grow in (or) raise him to Torah and to the Hupah (marriage canopy) and to good deeds. Amen. Selah."

Wimples are used to wrap around Torah scrolls. The collection also contains a book of flowers from the Holy Lands (circa 1925) and a Tefillin Bag from 1895 to 1930.
