Biographical / Historical
Nii Armah is a Ghanaian-born arts educator and graduate of the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts with a major in dance. He is also a graduate of the African Center for the Training of Performing Artists in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and has an MA in Expressive Arts Therapies from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA. Nii Armah has worked professionally as a dancer, choreographer, singer, actor (television, film and stage), public speaker, massage therapist and expressive arts therapist.
From 1987 to 1994 he was principal dance instructor and choreographer at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, while also touring Africa, Europe, Canada and the USA. He has conducted residencies and master classes at the University of California-Irvine, New England Conservatory of Music, Metro State University of Denver, Lesley College, and the National Theaters of Ghana, Ethiopia and Kenya. He currently teaches African Dance and introduction to Dance and Culture at the University of Colorado-Boulder and has received the Excellence in Teaching Award from CU Boulder.
