Biographical / Historical

Bio: Warren Conner was born in Aspen on July 25, 1920 to Milton George Conner and Margaret Herrington Conner. His grandparents, the Conners and the Herringtons, first settled in Aspen in 1887 from Ireland and worked as miners. Because Warren's father also worked as a miner before running a service station downtown, Warren grew up in a mining family. Graduating from Aspen High in 1938, Warren enlisted in the Navy but was rejected from the military because of a heart problem. Warren then took a job at the courhouse and was named deputy treasurer in 1947 and deputy country assessor in 1949. Warren retired from his work at the courhouse in 1991. After retirement, Warren spent much of his time hiking the trails and creeks, bird watching, and collecting rocks. Warren Conner died on April 15, 2001, at the age of 80.
