Abstract

Houston Waring, longtime editor of the Littleton Independent newspaper, reflects on his move from Georgia to Colorado in 1921 to treat his tuberculosis. Reflects on ending his naval career due to being sick, his transition to becoming a journalist in Colorado, and his time at the University of Colorado at Boulder including his involvement with a fraternity there. Discusses his career as editor of the Littleton Independent and the growth of Littleton. Reflects on the influence of the KKK and the anti-catholic sentiment present in Littleton and the presence of moonshiners during the prohibition. Tells the story of Littleton doctor who was charged with the murder of his daughter. Reflects on major changes in the Denver area and the biggest stories he covered at the newspaper.
