Abstract

Dress Blue Jewish War Veterans uniform that was worn by Sam Weinstein at events at the Jewish War Veterans, Post 344, Denver, Colorado. Sam Weinstein was one of the founders of the JWV Post 344. The jacket shows JWV isignias on both sides of the collar. On both lapels are JWV buttons and a JWV shoulder patch on the left sleeve. The medals and bars include a medal with a star of David, the WWII Victory medal and the Army Good Conduct medal. Three buttons on the jacket are missing. The trousers of the uniform have a gold stripe running down the sides. Sam Weinstein was born in 1912 in Denver and was a founding member of the Jewish War Veterans, Post 344. Sam Weinstein joined the Lavender Hill Mob in 1947, which sent ammunition and guns to what was then known as Palestine.

The collection includes Sam Weinstein's World War II army jacket and Jewish War Veterans uniform. The collection also contains a 1931 Kynewisbok (DU yearbook) that belonged to Rowena M. Akers and a folder with University of Denver memorabilia and graduation materials from 1933. An accrual in September 2022 brought in material culture items, including dresses, jackets, baby dresses, black swimming slippers, and household items. Five photographs were also included in the accrual. Charles Goldberg and Dr. Dennis Battock donated their Bar Mitzvah plates that were hand-painted by Rowena Weinstein.
