Abstract
This reel contains Harvey Gross speaking at the University of Denver during the winter/spring 1965 Department of English Lecture Series. This is the first lecture of the series that ran from January 11 - March 11, 1965 and the beginning of the recording contains a summary and explanation of the lecture series. Gross' lecture is titled, "The Moment of the Modern" which is also the title of the lecture series. He speaks to the notion of the importance of the 20th century both in historic and literary terms. He proceeds to look at the place of history within modern literature and refers to several authors which he believes made an impact on the perception of history in literature during the modern age.
