Box 16: Montecito Avocado Ranch (Rancho Cielo) Gift Agreements and Plans, 2010-2013
Abstract
This box contains materials related to the property gift of Daniel Ritchie's Santa Barbara, CA ranch, Montecito Avocado Ranch (also known as Rancho Cielo), that he donated to the University of Denver. The University of Denver accepted this property gift, worth $27 million, in order to fund the creation of a new Engineering Building (now the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science). Materials in this box include settlement instructions, executed agreements, tax concerns, operation statements, Assessor's notices, appraisal reports, plans for the Engineering building, papers from closing meetings, property donation forms, tax forms, guidelines for gifts of real estate, documents and correspondence, profit sharing plan, bill of sale, and papers with MAR LLC about legal matters.

Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials related to Daniel L. Ritchie, the 16th Chancellor of the University of Denver, including inauguration materials, newspaper clippings, publications and speeches by Ritchie, administrative files, photo albums, video tapes, leather bookmarks and a map of the Colorado Territory (1876).
Arrangement
This box was originally located in the U113 DU Business and Financial Affairs Office. However, all materials related to property gifts given by Daniel Ritchie have been moved to his collection in the property series. Other materials related to the sale of land donated by Daniel Ritchie after DU established ownership is located in U113.
