Abstract

From 1969–2012, from a variety of locations, including Bolinas, Gloucester, and London. Approx. 43 notebooks.

Some contain significant chunks of prose drafts, or drafts of poetry projects (such as Psyche), while others record the general texture of life (“Kate in hospital again,” from 1977 Bolinas journal). Some are inscribed “Bobbie Creeley,” and others note medications and routines that suggest BLH’s later years. With drawings, stories, dreams, diaries (1972 Gloucester journal), poems, and drafts of letters (purple book, “Letters, notes toward”). Other highlights include “Kidnapped,” labeled “finished Oct. 1969; “Notes on Magic for Bob,” “The Question Extraordinary and Ordinary” containing poetry manuscript, notebook for “The Thought That Was Called Helen” with notes on Gnosticism, and a notebook for Total Recall (also titled Save Forever). As well as notebook from Buffalo, dated Sept. 4, 1966, with “Bobbie Creeley” on the cover, later struck out to read “Louise Hawkins.”
