Biographical / Historical

Chung-Fu Chang is from Taiwan where he danced professionally with the internationally renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and the Kaohsiung Contemporary Dance Company. He earned an MFA in Dance in 1998 from University of California Irvine. He also was awarded scholarships to study at The Boston Conservatory, Harvard University, and at the Jacob’s Pillow Bessie Schonberg Choreography Workshop where he was invited back as a guest dancer. His choreography has been performed in the US, Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Cyprus, England, Greece, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan. His residencies include The Yard and the American Dance Festival International Choreographers’ Residency. Chang, now a full professor, began teaching and choreographing at Colorado State University in 2003 where he has received the CLA Academic Enrichment Program Award in 2006, the Outstanding Faculty Award from CSU Mortar Board in 2008, and the 2009 Best Teacher Award from the CSU Alumni Association. He has served as adjudicator, juror, and panelist for the Illinois Arts Council, the Thornton Arts, Sciences, and Humanities Council, The Bureau of Cultural Affairs Kaohsiung City Government in Taiwan, and VIII Certamen Interamericano XV Aniversario Dia Internacional de La Danza in Mexico. He was a speaker and adjudicator in 2016 and 2020 for the International Singapore Young Dance Festival and Experts Seminar.
