Road Construction, 1919
Abstract
Mounted photograph showing a construction crew building a road in South Dakota. Eight men, a woman and a child pose with two-, three- and four-horse hitches with grading implements on an open prairie. Behind them are two moveable construction trailers and an open motor vehicle. A freshly graded section of road runs up the hill in the left background; a canvas-roofed structure is behind the leftmost team, and a enclosed wood wagon and tent is pitched in the far right backgrond. After serving in the Army as an engineer during World War I, Morris Adelstein joined his mother in Kadoka, South Dakota and was elected as the county engineer for several counties in the state. Morris Adelstein and his banker founded the Northwestern Engineering Company in 1924.
