Abstract

File contains information on the Tifereth Israel Synagogue, including a copy of agreement Chaim Preissman signed with the synagogue for the purchase of two seats at the synagogue. The small synagogue, Congregation Tifereth Israel, was incorporated by Polish Jews in 1901 and was located under the Colfax Viaduct in the east European Jewish immigrant neighborhood of Denver. There is also a three-generation chart of the descendants of Chaim Preissman and an image of the tombstone of Dave Preissman who died as a child in Denver on 11/8/1902 and is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Collection materials relate to past and present Jewish congregations, which were or still are located in Denver, Colorado, or the western United States. including Denver congregations or temples. There is also a folder of documents relating to Temple Beth Israel, which was located in Boise, Idaho. Materials are originals or copies of items dating from 1906-2004, including receipts, correspondence, newspaper clippings, newsletters, member and founder lists, event programs, invitations, legal documents, interview transcripts, brochures, slichos, Hebrew Bibles, historical background information about the institutions, and a copy of a 1941 inventory of Colorado church and synagogue archives prepared by a division of the Works Progress Administration.
