The Burning of Cracow, c. 1960 - 1979
Abstract
"The Burning of Cracow [sic]" is oil on canvas board. Measuring approximately 30" x 22", the image depicts the destruction/burning of Kraków. The image is a cityscape with the buildings, including a synagogue and hotel, on fire. There are Jews huddled in the streets with luggage and a couple of men rescuing Torahs from the burning synagogue. In line with his other paintings, Veston did not date the painting, though it can be assumed that it was created while living in Albuquerque--between 1955 and 1980.
